Young Stroke Project

Young Stroke Project

This service has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the younger stroke client. The project offers individual support to people aged 16-64 years. It is estimated that in the UK each year 10,000 people of working age suffer a stroke. The Young Stroke Project aims to address the physical, emotional and social needs of these people.

How does it work?

The Young Stroke Project Co-ordinator and trained volunteers work closely with the individual after hospital discharge and in the longer term to meet their specific needs. The project aims to cater for the individual needs of the younger person by offering a range of services:
- Information and advice on the effects of stroke
- Access to confidential support and counselling services
- Advice and information on adjusting to disability
- Advice and information on relationship issues
- Opportunities to discuss experiences with other young people
- Information on education and personal development opportunities
- Activity programmes i.e. walking, Tai Chi, bowling, and aromatherapy
