Stroke Carers Support Group
Carers Groups
Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke recognises that when a stroke occurs, the impact is felt not only by the individual, but by their partners, family and friends. In response to this we have established Carers Groups across Northern Ireland. This service is for anyone who is looking after someone who has had a stroke. They are free and offer confidential practical and emotional support to help cope with Caring for Stroke.
How does it work?
The groups meet regularly and provide information, emotional support and assistance to the carers of stroke clients. A carer can be a relative, partner or friend of someone who has had a stroke and who is involved in caring for them. While every situation is different, it is helpful to meet with other carers who very often can understand what you are going through as they have had similar experiences. Talking to others can help to make you feel less isolated.
There are a range of activities:
- Information on stroke and other help topics
- Opportunity to meet and talk to other carers
- Signposting for further help i.e. practical and financial support
- Talks from various speakers
- Social events
How can I join a Carers Support Group?
Carers groups generally meet monthly and you can join by contacting your local Stroke Family Liaison Co-ordinator.
