Reduce Cardiac Risk
A heart attack is an EMERCENCY. If you see the signs of a heart attack act quickly and dial 999. Early treatment saves lives and increases the chance of making a better recovery.
Steps can be taken to reduce the risk of heart disease, heart failure and heart attack:
- Stop smoking - seek advice from a health professional or NICHS on ways to help you quit.
- Increase physical activity - aim for at least three 30 minutes sessions of aerobic exercise each week.
- Reduce stress - find ways to relax.
- Drink alcohol in moderation - the medically recommended units of alcohol per week is 14 for women and 21 for men.
- Reduce cholesterol - get your blood pressure and cholesterol measured regularly.
