Health promotion
Prevention is better than cure. A major part of Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke's (NICHS) work is to prevent chest, heart and stroke illnesses. We do this through health promotion work and raising awareness of risk factors for cardiovascular and respiratory illness.
NICHS provide the following programmes:-
Health assessments by nurse team
The nurse team carries out health checks and give health promotion talks in workplaces, community centres and health fairs across Northern Ireland. There are a range of different health assessments. Read more.
Health & Homeless project
This service is concerned with the health and well-being of the homeless person.
NICHS' Health and Homeless programme, Energise, is an outreach service to people living in hostels and assisted living accommodation, offering a range of healthcare services. Read more.
Highway to Health
This is an Ireland-wide scheme promoting exercise through signposted walking routes. NICHS has established routes in almost every council area in Northern Ireland. This service has been handed over to local councils to maintain. Read more.
