Respiratory Services

What are our Respiratory Services?

Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke offer a number of respiratory services:

  • Short and long term provision of nebulisers: Individuals suffering from asthma can borrow a nebuliser from Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke. A recommendation and application for a nebuliser can be made through your consultant or other health professional

  • Advice Helpline - dealing with general health problems as well as dealing with specific illness queries: The advice helpline number is 08457 697 299 (All calls are charged at local rate)

  • Developing respiratory support groups throughout Northern Ireland:

Support NetworkOur Respiratory Support Network is a community based initiative designed to support people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and their families and carers across Northern Ireland.

A respiratory condition is not always obvious to other people; it is often referred to as an 'invisible illness.' People do not always realise the impact COPD can have on a person's life and the lives of their families and carers. This means they don't always receive the necessary support and understanding. However other members of a Support Group do understand just how disabling and debilitating respiratory illness can be and this understanding and empathy can help.

In addition, self management of any chronic illness is central to long term rehabilitation but many people find making significant changes to the way they lead their lives very difficult and need additional support.
