5th UK Stroke Forum Conference

Tuesday 30 November - Thursday 2 December

What We Do

Lobbying

At NICHS, we aim to change Government and Health Service policy for the better, to improve the lives of people suffering from chest, heart and stroke illnesses. We lobby at both Westminster and Stormont to shape legislation at an early stage.

Advocacy

We speak out on behalf of all those who rely on our services, persuading and applying whatever pressure we can. This has resulted in - among other things - healthier school meals and shorter surgical waiting lists.

We are also members of the Long Term Conditions Alliance Northern Ireland, an umbrella body that works to improve the well-being of people with chronic conditions.

Research

While caring for current survivors of chest, heart and stroke illnesses, we invest for the future by funding ground-breaking research at our hospitals and universities. All the research we support is local, and benefits local people.

Services

We operate an extensive network of support groups in every area of Northern Ireland for people affected by stroke, cardiac illnesses and chest conditions. Our unique service for younger stroke survivors has been recognised at The Stroke Innovation Awards.

Fundraising

The vast majority of our funds are raised through the generosity of local people and companies. We have fundraising staff based in every area, helping local communities to help themselves. Every penny of our money is spent within Northern Ireland.
