Scientific Research Grants
Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke (NICHS) is the leading local charity concerned with the prevention and alleviation of chest disease, heart disease and stroke illness. These diseases account for around 54% of deaths in Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke is inviting research proposals for funding of work which will commence after 1st August 2010. The total funding has increased this year to £500,000.
A total of £250,000 is available for research into this year's priority area of respiratory illness.

Scientific research grants are available to researchers working in Northern Ireland carrying out research that will primarily benefit the people of Northern Ireland. NICHS welcomes applications for research projects which investigate the impact of any of these diseases on individuals, their families or communities.
A short application form should be completed in the first instance which will be scrutinised by the organisation's Scientific Research Grants Committee. Successful applicants at this stage will be invited to submit a full application which will be subject to extensive peer review.
The closing date for receipt of outline applications is 4pm on Friday 4 September 2009. Late applications will not be considered.

Scientific research grants are funded entirely by voluntary donations. In addition to research, all funds raised by Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke are used for lobbying and advocacy, to provide health promotion advice and to provide support to people with chest, heart or stroke illness.
NICHS is a member of the association of Medical Research Charities and adheres to its code of practise. This membership and its code act as a quality mark for NICHS-funded research.
