Have a Heart Week
Have Heart Week begins on Monday 8 February 2010 with the campaign theme of 'Beat Heart Disease' highlighting how 9 deaths every day in Northern Ireland are caused by heart disease. The campaign will focus on the risk factors of heart disease such as a diet high in sugar, fat or salt; lack of exercise; high blood pressure; family history; and high cholesterol.
Events taking place during the fundraising campaign begin with blood pressure checks with local Mayors, a range of fundraising events with NI Chest Heat and Stroke fundraising groups and health advice stands at shopping centres across Northern Ireland.
The regional media launch of the campaign will focus on NICHS research showing that younger and older people are most in the dark about the risks of heart disease and still don't know enough about the causes and effects of heart disease.

During Have a Heart week, radio and press adverts will ask people to support the work of Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke by mobile phone text donations. Money raised during Have a Heart Week will help the charity's health promotion work and contribute to its research budget. It is spending £500,000 on research in the current year.
