Best To Avoid Animal Experiments

The Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke Association is most reluctant to fund research which involves the use of animals. It has welcomed the Government’s initiative today. However, NICHSA feels that the monitoring of animal experiments should not be undertaken by the Medical Research Council. “It has a vested interest and could not be perceived to be completely objective in this regard”, said Andrew Dougal, Chief Executive of the NICHSA. more »

Waiting Lists – Good And Bad News

The NI Chest Heart & Stroke Association has congratulated all the doctors and nurses and other staff in the Health Service for the reduction by one third in the number of people waiting for treatment for more than 12 months. “This is a very considerable achievement”, said Andrew Dougal, Chief Executive of NICHSA. “However, I must point out that 25% of those waiting for treatment in cardiology have to wait more than 12 months. This is totally unacceptable. The Minister must let the public know what she is going to do to rectify this situation. more »
