HEALTHY LIFESTYLE WITH GARDENING IN ARDOYNE

Friday 6 November 2009

Developing a healthy lifestyle through gardening is the aim of a new project in Ardoyne.
The 'Daneo Garden Project' on the Upper Crumlin Road is looking for people to take part in the project and learn how to develop a healthy heart.

The aim of the programme is to develop an understanding of blood pressure, cholesterol, weight control and stress control through participation in light gardening activities and lifestyle advice. The project, set up by N.I. Chest, Heart and Stroke, Ardoyne and Shankill Health Partnership and Ligoniel Health Regeneration Project is a combined effort to try and prevent chest, heart and stroke illnesses in the Ardoyne Area.

Jessica Perry, Project Co-ordinator with NI Chest Heart and Stroke said: "We are looking for people in Ardoyne who know they need to live a healthier life but are not sure how to start to contact us and become involved in this project. It's a very social group were you can gain some knowledge of gardening and healthy lifestyles while having a nice morning out at the same time".

The Daneo Garden Project takes place on a Thursday morning at the Daneo Counselling Services garden on the Crumlin Road. The garden is being transformed into a perfect town garden with the additional help from a group from Boys Model School. The initial gardening programme is a twelve week programme looking to prepare the garden for the spring, when the participants are hoping to grow their own vegetables and herbs.

Anyone interested in joining the gardening group please contact Jessica Perry from N.I. Chest, Heart and Stroke on Tel: 028 9032 0184.
