The NI Chest Heart & Stroke has welcomed the fact that waiting times have decreased considerably. In particular it welcomes the 12% decrease in the number of people waiting for in-patient treatment. Those people waiting for more than 6 months is less than 1% of the total numbers in the queue for treatment.

This is a huge change since 1991 when some folk were waiting for more than 3 years for heart operations.

Congratulations are due to all those involved in reducing by more than half, the numbers of people waiting for an outpatient appointment.

Currently more than 11,000 are waiting more than 3 months for the first outpatient appointment. We look forward to March 2008 when it is hoped that this number will be eradicated.
